Our People
Susie Schweigert, Project Coordinator
Susie was first introduced to Nicaragua through a PML delegation to León in 1997. Since then she has returned often, including a research trip achieved via a John Hopkins University grant. Susie would go on to receive her Bachelor of Arts degree in Latin American Studies from JHU, while graduating a semester early in December 2004.
Susie’s unique combination of practical and academic experience makes her an exceptionally qualified coordinator. Besides extensively researching grassroots development and political participation in Latin America, she has lived in Argentina, Brazil (where she learned to speak Portuguese fluently) and Columbia, allowing her unparalleled insight and perspective on the overall political climate of Central and South America. Signing on for two years in May 2005, Susie has begun several ambitious projects and plans to focus the organization’s resources on building capacity within target communities, thereby achieving dynamic and enduring progress.
