Meet Oneyda... A Student Who Persists

Thursday, March 3, 2005

Warm greetings to all of you Minnesotans – all so friendly and giving.

My name is Oneyda. I am 19 years old. I am a loving, friendly young woman. This past year was a good year for me. I study in a secondary school called Las Brisas. It is only open on Saturdays. Las Brisas is a school for students who are working and don’t have much time for classes. Since I live in El Chague, I travel to school on a bicycle. It takes a half hour by bike but on foot it would take close to two hours! The road is very rocky and when it rains, it gets extremely muddy.

I am not complaining! School is going very well for me. I especially like maps and my favorite subjects are history and geography. I did not study for three years after I finished primary school but now I am back and I hope to finish high school so I can move forward and begin a career. I am not exactly sure what I will be doing but I think I will go for a technical career relating to computers.

Recently some university students from Gettysburg College visited us at Las Brisas. I liked how we talked and found that we understood each other very well. All of us were thankful for their visit and the chance to know each other better.

Your friend,

Oneyda
